Customer Access to Pricing and Ordering

Price visibility and order eligibility are independent decisions in CyberStore. A shopper can be allowed to see a price without being allowed to buy, or can be offered an ordering path whose price presentation is limited by Customer Class or site policy.

Use this separation to support business models such as:

  • A public catalog that displays prices but directs selected Customers to an offline sales process.
  • A B2B catalog that hides contract pricing until the shopper signs in.
  • Zero-price items that show a custom inquiry link instead of a purchase action.
  • View Lists that allow product discovery but disable Add to Cart for selected categories.
  • New or on-hold Accounts that can browse but cannot complete an order.

Evaluate price visibility

Access to Pricing explains the complete price-display decision, including anonymous access, Customer Class display options, View Lists, item approval, UOM selection, zero prices, and the relationship between pricing and Add to Cart.

Evaluate order eligibility

Access to Ordering explains Account and Customer holds, Customer Class restrictions, View Lists, Item Lists, item and category rules, UOM and inventory requirements, credit, and minimum order amounts.

Diagnose the shopper experience

When a shopper reports a problem, identify the exact boundary before changing configuration:

  1. Confirm whether the item itself is visible.
  2. Confirm whether any price is visible and which price type appears.
  3. Confirm whether Add to Cart is displayed and enabled.
  4. Confirm whether the item can enter the cart at the requested quantity and UOM.
  5. Confirm whether checkout begins and whether the order can be confirmed.

Each stage has different governing rules. Treating “cannot see a price” and “cannot place an order” as separate symptoms avoids weakening access controls that are working as intended.
