Working with Item Lists
Item Lists give signed-in shoppers a way to work with a useful set of products without depending on the Category structure. A list might represent favorites, frequently ordered items, an approved product set, or another collection meaningful to a particular Account or Customer.
The list’s owner determines who can see it and who can change it.
Account Item Lists
An Account Item List belongs to one Account. It is available when that Account signs in and can be maintained by an administrator through Account Maintenance or by the signed-in shopper through the storefront features provided by the site.
Account lists work well for personal or Account-specific collections that should not automatically be shared with every Account linked to the Customer.
Customer Item Lists
A Customer Item List is shared by all users whose Accounts are linked to that Customer. An administrator can maintain it through Customer Maintenance. On the storefront, a shopper designated as a Customer Administrator can maintain its contents.
Customer lists are appropriate when the organization wants a common collection available across its linked Accounts. Customer Administrators can change Customer lists, but they cannot change Account lists belonging to other Accounts.
Choose the appropriate workflow
Use these guides according to who is doing the work:
- Managing Item Lists in the Management Console explains how a site administrator creates lists and maintains their stock codes.
- Using Item Lists on the Storefront explains how a signed-in shopper reviews a list and adds selected products to the Cart.
- Managing Item Lists from Item Pages explains list membership, Customer Administrator behavior, and shopper-created lists.
An Account can also be configured to prevent purchasing items outside its linked Account and Customer Item Lists. Use that restriction only when the lists are intended to define the Account’s allowed assortment, and keep the lists current enough to support the Account’s purchasing needs.
