Updating Item Information
Once stock codes have been loaded, the next goal is to turn those records into complete, useful storefront pages. SYSPRO supplies important product data, but CyberStore also maintains the descriptions, images, Characteristics, and relationships that explain and present an item to shoppers.
There is no required order for completing every enrichment task. The practical goal is to review each area and finish the information that applies to the product before the site goes live.
Add images that support the purchase decision
Choose images that clearly represent the item and suit their intended display. A Category thumbnail, a featured item image, and a zoomable item-detail image serve different purposes and may need different dimensions or compositions.
Use Item Image Maintenance for product images and Category Maintenance for Category images. Review Item and Category Images before deciding which image types to use, then follow Preparing Images for file preparation and naming.
Write shopper-facing descriptions
Review items individually in Item Maintenance. Add the headline, subheadline, short content, and long description needed to explain the product. Also review Category descriptions so shoppers understand both the individual item and the broader group in which it appears.
More complete information helps shoppers compare products and make informed choices. It also reduces reliance on terse operational descriptions that may have been sufficient in SYSPRO but were not written for a storefront audience.
For a large number of existing items, Updating Item Data with Excel can apply CyberStore-managed values in bulk.
Build useful Characteristics
Characteristics communicate specifications and can help shoppers filter a catalog. Start by considering what customers would normally inspect or ask about when choosing the product: dimensions, material, compatibility, performance, color, or another meaningful distinction.
Create the required Characteristic Families and Characteristics in Setup > Characteristics. Values can then be maintained through the Console or imported in bulk. Characteristics used to distinguish SKUs within a Model require particular care because their order and values also shape the selection experience.
Connect relevant products
Related items and accessories encourage shoppers to consider alternatives or complementary products. Configure these relationships from the item’s Related Items and Accessories action. Accessories can also carry relationship-specific presentation and discount information.
Associations should reflect a useful relationship rather than simply increasing the number of products shown. See Associated Items for the available concepts and the role each serves.
